The information published on this site reflects publicly available research, practical grower experience and data from Czech agricultural institutions. Nothing here constitutes professional structural engineering, horticultural consultancy or legal advice. Always verify load-bearing capacity with a qualified structural engineer before installing any rooftop growing system.

What This Site Covers

UpperFieldCorner documents practical approaches to growing food in urban environments across the Czech Republic. The focus is narrow: rooftop beds, balcony containers and wall-mounted vertical systems in city buildings. Rural allotment gardening (zahrádkářská kolonie) and large-scale commercial greenhouse production are outside the scope of this site.

Content is organised around three recurring questions from Czech city residents:

Background

The site began as a document collecting notes from rooftop growing experiments in Prague's Žižkov and Vinohrady districts between 2020 and 2022. During that period, a number of building owners in Prague 3 converted unused rooftop spaces into community plots following changes in the Prague Metropolitan Plan (Metropolitní plán) which relaxed restrictions on rooftop structures.

Notes from those projects — covering substrate testing, irrigation setup, seasonal crop results and structural observations — form the factual base of the content published here.
